 BEST OF FAMOUS

These notes are for my clubs and balls. English not my first language I have use Google Translate and check by friend who speak English. If you not agree with some things here that is ok, you play your way, I play my way. Good luck, Kilbraur.

1) If wind behind I aim between facing camera and path to right of it and use full backspin to carry trees and rough. Any kind of wind against I aim at left edge of facing camera.

I read people say you has to play 4 yards long, this is misleading and cause many to hit too long. You need to know your clubs. Playing wedge with wind behind I not add on 4 yards. Play short iron, wind against then I do. If your approach to back pin is from left of fairway you have steep hump on green, shot has to be full backspin. If from right of fairway hump does not count so much. Easy putts are from pin high or behind pin.

Front pin you has to be accurate with 2nd, best to be short, downhill or side putts difficult slope.

2) If wind behind it eagle time. I get more eagles here than any other hole. I put at least 75% backspin to ball I not want it to run to rough on fairway slope. To go for pin you need at least 50% backspin to carry water. Usually possible with any kind of wind behind. If full backspin would leave you a few yards short next option is play to centre of green, slope will take you towards hole but you be few yards short with eagle putt. Wind against from left I aim just inside bunker and full forward spin. Right to left wind against aim just inside edge of water full forward spin. If second shot lands close to bunker on left then punch shot played 7 or 8 feet left rolls to pin.

3) Depend on wind I use backspin on drive to leave 50-80 yards from green. There is a dip on the fairway about 80 yards from green. I like to get drive onto that low level then I find punch shot best to pin, play shot a little left of pin. Normal wedge shots I find go long because of elevation.

4) All par 3 holes I use my chart I make. I have all wind strength and directions. I just look at wind strength, check my chart for the hole and play shot. You can do this for par 3 holes because the tee is in the same position every time you play. For all par 3 holes I have my chart for all wind strengths and directions (about 30 for each par 3) If in doubt I play short. I learn that long putt up hill not problem I work out distance then if in straight line below hole I subtract 3 feet and play straight putt. If below hole to left (my favourite position) I work out distance then add 4 feet and play 4 feet left. It roll right up to hole and 50% times I get birdie. If you land behind hole you have to play flop shot full backspin if you not want to pass hole and go down hill.

5) Wind behind or from side drive to centre fairway. From back tees with wind in face I put full forward spin on driver and aim for centre of hump. That shot gives a lot of roll forward. Even with 20 wind in face it possible to go 300 yards off the hump. 2nd shot is to downhill slope on green so full backspin. If you wind calculations correct and you know your clubs you very close to hole. Some people play way left and let ball come off slope, they the people in alt shot games who end up rolling backwards and then it 30 yard flop shot struggle for par. Only go way left off slope if you have practiced and know clubs well.

6)  Par 3 hole I use my charts (see hole 4)

7) Be careful of hollow to left of fairway it take a lot of distance out of drive, play to right of it. If I can reach green with wind against I go for hole with iron I play full backspin. Wind behind hard to make ball stop so 2 choices. Go long, over green and pitch back OR play short and flop shot full back spin. If playing backspin I hit 7 feet right to allow for the slope. If you have played long and have to putt back to hole be careful, putt reads uphill and I see many players miss long. Most of that putt is downhill and I calculate it for down hill but add 1-2 feet. If strong wind against and you play way left to next fairway be careful not to go out of bounds by playing too far left. Your 3rd shot needs to be 7-8 feet more right because you landing on a right to left slope.

8) Drive is not hard just centre of fairway. 2nd shot green above you. Here secret to not go to water. If wind right to left do calculations ignoring elevation. Now you can attack pin. You be short but dry and uphill putt. Wind left to right add calculations for wind and add for elevation. Wind in face or behind I attack pin. If you in doubt, safe shot is left but you need to be up to the level of pin or difficult sloping putt.

9) For drive I put marker to exact distance my driver hit plus 6 yards. If left to right wind I put to left edge of fairway and right to left on right edge of fairway. Full backspin with wind behind and 50 % backspin wind in my face. Rolling to rough on right not a problem but rough to left you looking at bogey. I find punch shot to pin is best. I ignore elevation but allow for wind. Sometimes in ALT shot games my partner put me in right hand bunker on top of hill. It only 15/20 sand. I find that add 5% to distance and little backspin gets me close to hole.

10) Drive , if strong wind behind go easy on drive to avoid water. Strong wind against go right with 2nd shot to avoid bunker. I avoid backspin to pin, misjudge distance and you come back to lower tier of green and then struggle for par.

11) Hump in front left of pin, I add 6 feet to distance if going for pin. Better to be right of pin for easy putt, left of pin difficult putt. If you land front left of pin, check putt distance it show uphill but really downhill with only last foot uphill.

12) Par 3 hole I use my charts (see hole 4) example for this hole 11 wind pointing to 7 o’clock = 5 iron 50% backspin aim 16 feet right.

13) Before drive look at map of hole, you can see if your 2nd shot is from right of fairway you can take a lot of water out of play. Drive to right of fairway, it slopes right to left so you can play to right edge. 2nd shot, green is 30 feet or so below you so adjust for wind and elevation carefully and if in doubt be safe and play right. Play this hole for par and you can be lucky and get birdie. Play for birdie and the hole will beat you.

14) If drive not on fairway forget birdie and your chances of par are less than 50%. Take care over drive, it has to land on fairway. Sacrifice a few yards of distance to be accurate and play to right of fairway , this takes greenside bunker out of play. 2nd shotCalculate distance then play 8 feet more right. With wind behind you still play more right but a bit short and let ball run to hole. If you drive to rough then best shot is punch to bottom right of green and just short of green then you wedge to hole. Easy putt is from below hole.

15) It a par 5 you can’t reach green with drive. It not worth risking bad position on fairway for extra 10 yards on drive. Be smart, go for position. Before play 2nd shot ask youself where you want to play 3rd shot from. Bunker/from rough beside green/pitch from left edge/40 foot downhill putt? What it be? I choose full wedge from front of bunker in front of pin. I play my second shot to 45 yards in front of that bunker (not left of bunker, in middle) Next shot, easy wedge to pin, tap in putt. I always get birdie. If playing punch onto green you hitting to upslope add on extra yard.

16) I say many times in mine notes that it more important be accurate and stay on fairway than go for distance. This drive are good example. With tailwind ball go long way but fairway full of humps, it so easy to find rough. I always put on full backspin and 95% power to stop drive rolling off this fairway. 2nd shot mustn’t be short, use full backspin and float it in. Better long than short here.

17) Par 3 hole I use my charts (see hole 4) example for this hole 10 wind pointing to 5 o’clock = 4 iron 50% backspin aim 12 feet left. You are hitting 30 foot down so remember to calculate the elevation.

18) I find 2nd shot is easier from left centre of green. I aim drive well left of pin (it also the best line to bounce off the road for extra distance) I see people who play off Pro/Masters tees go down right of fairway for extra distance. That means second shot is going to land on downslope of green and hard to stop ball. I find left side of fairway gives better birdie chances. I usually play a punch shot to the pin and slightly right because green slopes right to left. If you have played short and roll back down slope to fairway then flop shot to pin and add extra 3 feet is best way to save par.
