Trying to hit the ding make me a grouchy old man.  Illustration below.

Then a learned a trick.

I was not fast enough to hit ding.  But I was fast enough to hit after the pre-ding. Boy did my ding and close ding go up.

Look at the illustration below.

The yellow arrow is the meter movement.  The red arrow is the pre-ding line. The black arrow is the ding line. When the meter gets to the pre-ding line I wait a split second and hit the mouse.  95% of the time I am on or a little off of hitting the ding line.

 

Granted this did not happen over one round, but very, very soon I was so close to hitting the ding.  I learned this method with the starter balls,  when I went up to a 2 dot slow meter ball it was so easy.

 

I have a non-jumpy meter so that helps a lot. I use Chrome and or Comodo Dragon.  Hope this helps with your ding.
